Sustainability
Living in the heart of the Ria Formosa is an opportunity but everyone can understand its fragility. We are modestly trying to do our part to protect this beautiful nature.
A responsible renovation...
We sought to reuse the materials already present on the site, the cement tiles on the 1st floor were found on the ground floor, the stone of the fireplace is an old pillar, the stones for the door frames have been recut. For insulation, we used locally sourced cork. The wooden windows were produced in Olhão. The terracotta tiles are Portuguese artisanal creations from Santa Catarina.
Reducing plastic...
We do not offer water in plastic bottles, nor do we offer small plastic bottles in the bathroom. We will offer you filtered water in glass bottles that we reuse. For the amenities we selected a small company from Castro Marim, 8950, which has removed from its products everything that is bad for our skin, favoring essential oils of figs, almonds and sea fennel, sourced in the Algarve.
Saving water and energy…
We invested in solar panels and a heat pump to consume less energy. We installed double glazing for protection from the heat and when this is no longer enough, we have reversible air conditioning throughout the building connected to the heat pump.
Water is a very precious commodity here, our preference is not to wash towels every day. We favored the installation of large showers. We chose a salt pool, no chemicals, no chlorine smell...
Favoring local materials…
We placed our trust in Portuguese companies to equip the boutique hotel by observing their environmental practices. The bedding is by Molaflex, a company founded in 1951 near Aveiro; sheets, towels and table linens are made by Sampedro in northern Portugal which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021, blankets and armchairs by Burel Factory in the sublime Serra de Estrela, recycled cotton rugs by Saudade Design, bathroom lamps by Studio K in Lisbon, tableware by Oficina da Formiga and Costa Nova...
